Image 5: Post #11 in our series featuring outstanding pictures of #punggoldigitaldistrict taken by talented WOHAcians for our company-wide photo competition. This shot by @perrywarrend shows the glass canopy sheltering #campusboulevard @ Punggol Digital District (PDD) is a 50-hectare integrated district in Singapore designed to bring jobs, education, and social amenities closer to homes. It creates a highly liveable, vibrant, sustainable, and biophilic environment through innovative urban planning, balancing density with ample greenery, and fostering deep integration across its multiple strata. The direct synergy between the physically connected industry and academia creates an ecosystem for collaboration and one that spurs innovation. PDD’s strategic planning enables a significant portion of the site’s vegetation to be conserved and transformed into a Community Park, thereby preserving a precious and generous green breathing space at the heart of the district. Image 6: Reposting @architectsnotarchitecture: Next week in Singapore!! The architect and artist Richard Hassell @richardhassellart from @woha_architects will be on stage alongside Elora Hardy from @ibukubali and Charu Kokate @charu_kokate from @safdiearchitects at SOTA on March 13. Be part of it! 👉🏽 🎟 Get your tickets on our website. Link in bio. 🔗 This event marks our premiere in Singapore and is presented in collaboration with @jungasia and @junglovesarchitecture. 🕖 Doors open at 3:00 PM | Talks start at 4:00 PM 🏛 Venue: SOTA – Studio Theatre, 1 Zubir Said Dr, Singapore At our events, speakers share the experiences and influences that shaped them as architects. Our golden rule: no discussions about their own projects. Richard Hassell is the co-founding director of WOHA. He graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1989 and was awarded a Master of Architecture from Melbourne’s RMIT University in 2002. He has lectured at many universities, served as an adjunct professor at the University of Western Australia, and was appointed the Seidler Chair in the Practice of Architecture at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. WOHA projects are living systems that connect to the city as a whole. With every project, the practice aims to create a matrix of interconnected, human-scaled environments that foster community, enable stewardship of nature, generate biocentric beauty, activate ecosystem services, and build resilience. WOHA applies its systems-thinking approach to architecture and urbanism in its building designs as well as in its regenerative masterplans. Parallel to his architectural endeavors, Richard Hassell has cultivated a distinguished art practice, delving into the artistic and decorative potentials of emergent systems and complex tilings. 📸 Picture Credits: 1 – WOHA Architects 2 – Parkroyal - Patrick Bingham Hall 3 – Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel - Darren Soh 4 – Oasia Hotel - K. This lovely shot of a bridge connecting to the library block of @singaporetech, which is a part of the larger Punggol Digital District Masterplan, was taken by @kishinatsuki. It is the academic heart of the campus and is wrapped in red fins - the connecting bridges branch out from it to the rest of the district like arteries. Image 8: We recently revisited one of our older projects: Stadium MRT Station in Singapore. It was designed in 2000 (25 years ago!), the start of construction was a year later and it was completed in 2008. The station can be naturally ventilated (the day we visited there really was no air conditioning running, which made us very happy) and uses daylight, even in the underground levels - this saves a lot of energy and brings the outdoors inside. The skylights and louvered walls enable a direct connection to the outside and create a calm, easily navigable environment in a station that has to handle high traffic and surge crowds (during events at the National Stadium). #stadiummrt #publictransport #singaporemrt #kallang #stadium #nationalstadiumsingapore #singapore #architecture #design #naturalventilation #daylight #passivedesign #sustainabledesign #sustainability #woha #wohaarchitects
