* singaporetrip Orchard road busy Dhoby Ghaut MRT #singaporetrip A busy MRT station in Orchard road which is also an interchange with MRT lines. It is even connected to a busy shopping centre connecting North South Line, North East Line and Circle Line. If you have been to Dhoby Ghaut MRT, you can see it is very big and very deep underground. If you also pay attention, you can see many artworks around the station. It is very accessible to many places from Dhoby Ghaut MRT such as The Istana and National Museum of Singapore. * singaporeguide * 01-02 James Hong Yung Chung 88 Exhibition #singaporeguide The James Hong Yung Chung Retrospective Exhibition was a celebration of the artistic achievements of James Hong Yung Chung over the decades. It took place at the Visual Arts Centre in Singapore from December 7 to December 11, 2024. The exhibition showcased his works, including calligraphy and landscape paintings, and aimed to foster artistic exchange among enthusiasts. James Hong Yung Chung is a celebrated artist known for his mastery in calligraphy and landscape painting. His artistic journey began in his youth, practicing independently before formally studying floral painting at the age of 20. In 1964, he became a student of Peng Ximing, specializing in landscape painting. After moving from Hong Kong to Singapore in 1971, he connected with prominent art collectors and deepened his artistic insights. His works have been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, and Shangyu since 1997. His paintings are now part of collections at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Nanyang University Museum in Singapore, and private collections in the UK, US, and Germany. Visitors enjoyed the venue at 10 Penang Rd, #01-02, Dhoby Ghaut Green, Singapore 238469, and entry was free for all. It was a great opportunity for art lovers to appreciate some incredible works. * bookstoresandgalleries Two Sides of the Canvas Art Exhibition The exhibition showcases a variety of themes, from the serene beauty of nature to the complexity of human emotions. Li’s use of color and light is particularly noteworthy. She employs a vibrant palette to bring her subjects to life, while her masterful use of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to her compositions. Each piece is a study in contrast, highlighting the interplay between light and dark, joy and sorrow, clarity and ambiguity. “Two Sides of the Canvas” is more than just an art exhibition; it is a celebration of the transformative power of art. By presenting everyday scenes and objects in a new light, Li challenges viewers to see the world from a different perspective. Her work serves as a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, and that art has the power to elevate the mundane to the extraordinary. #bookstoresandgalleries Silly Papa 6
* 2024wish KithSTOP Dhoby Xchange #2024wish Address: 11 Orchard Rd, B1-20 Dhoby Ghaut MRT, Singapore 238826 KithSTOP is a smaller version of Kith Cafe and it offers good coffee and simple, hearty and wholly satisfying fare. The menu is not as extensive as the cafe but good enough for a grab and go meal. I ordered the latte, avocado and salmon toast and a swiss roll & overall was good & I enjoyed a quiet meal. The price I would say on a high side & I paid $16 for the meal. Service was attentive and the staff were friendly. I came on a Saturday and the place was pretty quiet during lunch time. Overall, quite ok if you want a quick meal. Butter- 10
* hiddengems What a Wonderful World Art Exhibition #hiddengems The What a Wonderful World Art Exhibition at the Visual Art Centre is a must-visit for anyone who loves art that uplifts and inspires. The exhibition showcases a diverse range of artworks, each celebrating the beauty, resilience, and wonders of life and the world around us. One piece that truly stood out to me was "Glad I Didn’t Die" by Rachel Pang Comics. It’s her first major art piece, and it’s absolutely captivating. The artwork carries a powerful message, reminding us that despite the challenges we face, the world is still full of beauty and worth living for. Its raw, heartfelt expression really resonates, making it a highlight of the exhibition. FlyingNoodles 2
* traveldiaries * 01-02 Visit to the Playhouse Exhibition at Visual Arts Centre #traveldiaries I recently had the pleasure of attending the Playhouse Exhibition at the Visual Arts Centre in Dhoby Ghaut Green. This pop-up event was a vibrant celebration of cultures and creativity, featuring a fantastic mix of brands from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. As I wandered through the exhibition, I was captivated by the diverse array of crafts, fashion, coffee, tea, baked goodies, and savory bites on display. Each booth showcased the unique talents and creativity of the makers, offering a delightful sensory experience. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of beautifully crafted items made the atmosphere lively and inviting. One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to meet and connect with the makers themselves. Their passion and dedication to their crafts were truly inspiring. I enjoyed sampling delicious treats and exploring the unique products on offer, each reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. * goingplaces A Brush with the Chinese Zodiac: A Solo Exhibition by Sue Olivier #goingplaces For art lovers and curious minds alike, Sue Olivier’s solo exhibition, A Brush with the Chinese Zodiac, offers a delightful journey into the world of playful creativity and cultural appreciation. Held at the Visual Art Centre in Dhoby Ghaut Green from November 15th to 17th, 2024, the exhibition is a celebration of Sue’s deep admiration for Asian culture, brought to life through her charming interpretations of the Chinese zodiac animals. Sue Olivier’s paintings stand out for their whimsical take on the 13 zodiac animals (yes, 13—there’s an extra one you’ll have to discover for yourself!). Each creature is depicted with a playful personality that jumps off the canvas, making them more than just symbols of the lunar calendar. The Rat, for instance, might be caught mid-laugh, while the Tiger exudes mischievous energy. Sue has taken these traditional icons and infused them with a sense of humor and warmth, creating pieces that are as fun as they are meaningful. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a fan of the Chinese zodiac, or just someone who enjoys a bit of whimsy, A Brush with the Chinese Zodiac promises to be an exhibition that will leave you inspired and entertained. Don’t forget to visit before it closes on November 17th! FlyingNoodles 2
* singaporetrip My Experience at Inked Affinities Showcase Exhibition I recently visited the Inked Affinities: A Siaw-Tao Collaborative Showcase Exhibition, and it was an enlightening experience that highlighted the various forms of artistic collaboration. These collaborations have evolved to include multiple individuals working on a calligraphy piece or numerous seal carvers imprinting their seals on a single artwork. This blend of old and new techniques showcased the dynamic and evolving nature of ink art. The exhibition was open to the public with free admission, making it accessible to everyone. It took place from July 4th to 7th, 2024, at the Visual Arts Centre in Dhoby Ghaut Green. For anyone interested in the fusion of traditional and contemporary art forms, this exhibition was a must-see. #singaporetrip Silly Papa 7
* 01-02 * citydaytours The Art Exhibition “Two Sides of the Canvas” Art has always been a medium through which artists express their innermost thoughts, emotions, and perspectives. The “Two Sides of the Canvas” exhibition, held at the Visual Arts Centre in Dhoby Ghaut Green, Singapore, is a testament to this enduring tradition. This exhibition, featuring the works of Heather Li, offers a unique exploration of aesthetics, composition, color, light, and shadow, inviting viewers to delve into the duality of perception and reality. Heather Li’s work is characterized by her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to capture the essence of her subjects. The exhibition’s title, “Two Sides of the Canvas,” aptly reflects the dual nature of her art. On one side, there is the visible, tangible world that we all perceive; on the other, there is the hidden, often overlooked realm of emotions and thoughts that lie beneath the surface. Through her paintings, Li encourages viewers to look beyond the obvious and to appreciate the deeper layers of meaning embedded in her work. Moreover, the exhibition has a philanthropic aspect, with proceeds being donated to the Children’s Aid Society. This adds another layer of significance to the event, as it underscores the role of art in fostering community and supporting worthy causes. Here are the details: Dates: August 24-25, 2024 Time: 11 AM - 4 PM Venue: Visual Arts Centre, 10 Penang Rd, #01-02, Dhoby Ghaut Green, Singapore 2384691 #citydaytours FlyingNoodles 7
