What People Say

Image 70 Combination of taro and salted egg are amazing! For $2, this is quite a delightful bun to pick up. The top was flaky, with multiple layers of crusty purple and cream swirled skin. The bottom of the bun had the texture of bread, which provided a solid base for this interesting bun. Hidden in the middle of the bun were a trio of fillings – taro paste, mochi, and salted egg, which were a riot of flavours and textures. Sticky, creamy, chewy, gritty mouth feels that had saltiness and sweetness just made this bun that I didn’t get tired of. @Melissa Chee

Image 71 The amount of fillings is SOOOO GENEROUS. Swee Heng 1989 never disappoints with the fillings. The bread is really hefty and is stuffed with yam and pumpkin filling. The fillings are pretty sweetened, but still have a natural yam and pumpkin taste. The mochi is super sticky and stretchy. It's a bit on the liquidy side, which I like. The taste does get a bit overwhelmed by the yam and pumpkin, but it still provides that mochi texture. It was a good bun! @breaddinosaur

Image 72 First time trying a cake from Swee Heng! Though it's not shown in the pics, there's a thick layer of caramel sauce on top of the cake and it's really sweet, the cream is really nice too! I especially love the generous topping of chopped almonds, which gave it a nice crunch. Overall a pretty nice cake! If you have a sweet tooth and love almonds, I'd recommend trying this! @breaddinosaur

Image 73 The mochi is stretchy, more on the watery side and slightly sweet, and the chocolate filling has a milk chocolate taste, they go together quite nicely! The top of the bun also has a cookie crumble so when toasted, there's a bit of a polo taste. Can see why this is so popular, will probably get it again! @breaddinosaur

Image 74 Picked this up because it looked hefty and had the bestseller tag! It’s not written in the name but it actually had cheese on top and tastes like a cheese bread, with some cranberry and walnut bits inside. I liked the cranberries which lent a slight sweetness that matched well with the savoury cheese! @Cheralynn Wong
