This course provides fundamental knowledge that facilitate sales and communication in gems and jewellery retails.
Course Content
- An introduction to gemstones, jadeites, diamonds, and their common treatments
- International policies for disclosing treatments, synthetic gemstones and diamonds
- Types of gemstone fashioning (cut), and jewellery settings
- Types of precious metals, hallmarking and calculation of gold prices
- Participants will develop essential skills in selecting and purchasing gemstones, diamonds, and jewelry. These skills will enable them to effectively recommend items to customers, leading to improved communication and increased sales
Gemstone Identification
This intensive gemstone course provides an excellent introduction to a wide range of gemstones, including popular varieties such as ruby, sapphire, emerald, opal, and quartz. Participants will acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to colored gemstones.
Course Content
- The fundamentals of gemstones, as well as over 20 different types of gemstones that are commonly found in today’s market, such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald
- The functions of various instruments, including but not limited to the microscope, spectroscope, and Gem tester, as well as how to interpret the results obtained from them
- The identification of various types of inclusions, treatments, and synthetics of the gemstones
Diamond Identification & Grading
This immersive course offers a captivating introduction to the fascinating world of diamonds, providing participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to identify and grade diamonds based on the 4Cs (color, clarity, cut, and carat), utilizing a variety of real diamond samples, videos, graphics, and textual materials.
Course Content
- The fundamentals of diamonds, including an overview of the grading system (4Cs)
- The various instruments used to perform diamond grading and the contents of a diamond grading report
- Identifying surface features, inclusions, color elements, cutting proportions, and treatments of natural diamonds, as well as the processes involved in producing synthetic diamonds and its special features
Jadeite Identification
This intensive jadeite course provides an excellent introduction to the world of jadeite, equipping participants with both theoretical and practical knowledge of this fascinating gemstone. By taking this course, participants will gain proficiency in identifying jadeites and their treatments, understanding the various classifications of jadeite, and distinguishing natural jadeites from their simulants.
Course Content
- The history and properties of jadeite and nephrite
- The classification of jadeite into commercial grades based on color and transparency, and an understanding of the different types of natural, treated, dyed, and synthetic jadeite, as well as the various treatment processes
- The ability to distinguish natural jadeite, Type A, from treated jadeite (Type B, Type B+C, composite, aged etc) and the common jadeite simulants
