RECHARGE!

Passion To Serve opens a new Activity Centre, RECHARGE, for migrant workers at the newly launched Sembawang Recreation Centre (SRC).

Sembawang Recreation Centre (SRC) would become the latest addition to the list of Recreation Centres provided by Singapore Ministry of Manpower ACE Group for relaxation and recreation of the migrant workers.

Within SRC, Passion To Serve’s RECHARGE would provide migrant workers from nearby dormitories with a platform to ‘recharge” themselves through a combination of fun and learning activities, a mix of games and enrichment, and a balance of recreation and education.

At RECHARGE, in a lounge environment, on the one hand, migrant workers would be able to enjoy video games on X-Box, play Table Tennis, Carrom and many board games and on the other, they would be able to participate in Yoga and Art & Craft sessions, go through a collection of freely available books, attend various enrichment classes such as those on Computer & Technology, MS Excel, Spoken English and Personal Finance and work on their fitness at the Fitness Corner – all for FREE.

Recent Action @ Passion To Serve

International Migrants Day celebrations

IMD @ Kranji, IMD @ SRC

Passion To Serve celebrated IMD at Kranji Recreation Centre in Dec 2022 and at Sembawang Recreation Centre in Dec 2023 with the migrant workers from nearby dormitories, engaging them with exciting rounds of Bingo, Dart, Bounce-Off-Ping-Pong and Lidi Stick games. Many participants had fun while trying to direct the ball towards the basket to claim goodies while few others expressed their artistic side through craft making and painting. Workers were also informed about Passion To Serve’s upcoming round of free online educational courses.

Loads of fun in the true ACE spirit of Assurance, Care and Engagement – thanks to Ministry of Manpower ACE Group for facilitating the event and to other organizations such as Sian Chay Medical Institution, My Brother SG, Its Raining Raincoats and AWGO for coming together to bring a smile to our worker brothers.

GIFTIK: Gift-In-Kind

Passion To Serve distributed new/used items to over 1200 migrant workers on 11 December 2022 at the Penjuru Recreation Centre under its GIFTIK or Gift-In-Kind initiative, while similar GIFTIK events over 2023 and early 2024 at Penjuru and Sembawang Recreation Centre saw participation from about 2200 migrant workers. Thank you to all the donors for parting with your pre-loved items and serving a smile to the workers.

Free 'Digital Workshops' on MS Excel

Selected migrant workers in Singapore underwent free hands-on training on MS Excel using rented/donated laptops as part of a #DigitalWorkshop organized by Passion To Serve for worker brothers who had completed the Basic online technology course earlier.

Migrant workers went through the nitty gritty of Excel from VLOOKUPS to Pivot Tables to Macros. Indeed, knowledge knows no boundaries.

World Mental Health Day event

Passion To Serve co-organized World Mental Health Day event in Singapore along with Ministry of Manpower ACE Group, MWC and HealthServe at Tuas South Recreation Centre on 9 October 2022 and at Penjuru Recreation Centre on 8 October 2023. Over these years, the WMHD event saw close to 1400 and 1000 migrant workers benefiting from various activities around mental health.

Migrant workers enjoyed and relaxed through various novel games and activities:

  • Steel Combat and Masala Bhangra

  • Breathing and Relaxation Exercises

  • Card making

  • Mindfulness games – Sudoku, Tower of Hanoi, Spot The Difference, Memory Game, Traditional Lidi stick game

  • Feeling Wheel

  • GIFTIK counter of pre-loved donated items for our worker brothers

Thank you MoM ACE Chief Mr. Tung for gracing the event and for spending time with workers and volunteers alike.

Singapore National Day celebrations

Passion To Serve celebrated the 57th Singapore National Day with around 1800 migrant workers at Cochrane Recreation Centre supported by 30 volunteers. It was a success with loads of recreation and fun—both the volunteers and workers had an enjoyable time.

At the event, we saw some astonishing paintings and crafts, lively competition at the carnival game stalls, relaxing yoga sessions, and intense traditional lidi stick games. Fresh smoothies were also made with an enjoyable bingo session at the end. We were also able to distribute certificates for our educational courses and gain students for future sessions.

Knowledge-To-Serve

Image 7

Serve food to someone, you serve him for a day; Serve Education, and you serve him for life.

Education goes beyond short-term fulfillments and academic achievements as it provides a pathway to fulfilling dreams and realizing potential through re/up-skilling. Knowledge also raises general awareness about ourselves and about the society we live in.

Under ‘Knowledge-To-Serve’ programme, Passion To Serve conducts regular enrichment courses and workshops for those who do not have access to quality education, including migrant workers in Singapore. Subjects include Digital literacy (Computers/Technology, MS Excel),  Financial literacy, Language literacy (Spoken English), Environmental literacy, Art & Craft sessions and Yoga and Mindfulness classes.

All the courses are taken by instructors who are experts in their respective fields and the sessions are delivered in a fun-filled manner but with professional corporate-like quality involving diagnostic tests, quizzes, break-out sessions, assessment tests, and certificates.

Knowledge-To-Serve also involves organizing lecture series and interaction sessions on specific topics on awareness about digital and financial safety, health, nutrition and cancer besides setting up libraries at worker dormitories and conducting Book Donation Drives at various schools.

You can participate by becoming a Volunteer Educator to teach or assist with teaching any of these topics (Computers, Finance, English, Yoga) or by sharing any relevant part of your professional knowledge and insights which can be useful for general awareness of the society. Topics could range from understanding of Maths or Technology to professional perspective on Cloud Computing, Climate Change and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
