Our Story and Vision
Former colleagues-turned-friends, the founders of A Class Act, share a joint passion for Education and the English Language. In their long careers as educators, the students they have taught, blossomed under their tutelage, many of which, were able to gain entrance into highly sought-after schools and eventually becoming scholarship recipients.
Having spent close to two decades teaching, they have a profound understanding of the barriers young learners face in mastering writing and speaking; and how much they benefit from close interaction with teachers. This understanding, provided them the vision of developing small classes aimed at overcoming those barriers through a systematic approach. Their belief is that anyone can become confident and proficient in speaking and writing with proper guidance.
“Great writers and speakers are not born, they are nurtured and trained”

We want to cultivate a love for writing in our little ones. Relatable writing tasks are given at the start of the year to encourage them to write. Towards the end of the year, writing topics will gradually be aligned to school-based questions.

Private 1-1 Tutoring
We understand that some students require personal attention from teachers. By engaging our teachers privately, they will be able to customise lessons to tailor to your child’s individual needs. Lesson timings are subjected to the individual teacher’s schedule and availability.
Every term break, our teachers believe it is important for students to break away from the confined boundaries of school-based writing. We select a series of authors to inspire our students to write like them. Using themes within these author’s books to not only teach writing techniques but also to get our students to think critically. Each day of our holiday writing program, our students will analyse and reflect the various styles of writing, emulate these writing skills to apply into their creations. At the end of the workshop, their progress would be documented in a writer’s journal and finally presented as a book.
Follow us on Facebook to look out for upcoming workshops.

Our Teaching Philosophy and Approach
At A Class Act, lessons are designed with these four blocks in mind. With an equal emphasis on content creation and developing language flair.
GUIDANCE
Breaking down story development, writing skills, grammar, comprehension and cloze comprehension answering techniques into simplified steps. These steps are modelled by teachers in great detail and depth so that all our students are able to acquire them for independent application for writing.
FEEDBACK
Timely detailed feedback from teachers through class sharing and individual consultations, where students are given clear areas of improvement to work on their next draft. To help them become more aware of the components of a good piece of writing, we train students to practise conducting peer and self-evaluations of their written work.
ENGAGEMENT
Piquing the student’s interest and getting their creative juices flowing through showcasing different texts (fiction and non-fiction). Using media to provide schema, facilitating discussions in class and sharing of real-life experiences to spark ideas.
PRACTICE
Providing ample opportunities for students to apply the skills they have learnt, to develop content and showcase language. Exposing students to both school-based and creative writing tasks, allowing them avenues to discover their writing styles and grow in confidence with each practice.
