The EduGrove Methodology
Breaking away from the traditional methods of learning Chinese found in other tuition centres, EduGrove focuses on cementing important commonly tested keywords into the long-term memory through fun, engaging, and effective vocabulary learning games, improvisational and role-playing drama, and stimulating discussions that coax students into expressing themselves using the keywords taught.
Our methodology includes plenty of exam practice through written exercises. These exercises allow students to perfect every component of the Chinese examination papers, building confidence for future exams.
Our enrichment methodology goes beyond Chinese language grades into important 21st century competencies such as eloquence, presentation, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, all in one class.

Our Chinese Enrichment Teaching Process
1. Circle Time
Circle Time is a teaching exercise that encourages children to converse using language and gives them the opportunity to use keywords in a real-world conversational format. Circle time gives students the space to practice speaking Mandarin whilst also honing their presentation and listening skills in an environment that builds confidence. Unlike curriculum-based Chinese lessons, the emphasis on circle time is applying learned vocabulary through guided discussions that build fluency and comfort.
2. Active Learning
Active learning games introduce new vocabulary and encourage children to speak, listen, and interact through play. Our Chinese enrichment teaching process is based around creating a fun and interactive learning environment where students can vocalise and apply keywords without feeling the pressure associated with “traditional” learning environments. Learning through play keeps students engaged and helps new words and phrases to stick more effectively than traditional memorisation-based learning.
3. Role Playing & Improvisation Drama
Role playing and improvisational drama helps students to apply keywords whilst encouraging cooperation in a group environment. Role playing and improvisational drama allows students to hear and use language in a meaningful context whilst encouraging them to think on their feet. This learning technique focuses on communication and helps our students to cement commonly tested words into their long-term memory.
4. Written Exercises
Written exercises allow students to put what they have learned in an interactive environment back onto paper through written exercises. This learning reinforcement technique allows students to practice all sections of the Chinese examination papers so that they approach them with calm and confidence. Our Chinese enrichment syllabus is thoughtfully crafted by our former MOE PSLE marker and her team of curriculum writers to help students ace their exams.

How EduGrove Differs From Other Chinese Tuition Centres
EduGrove’s teaching methodology aims to help students foster a deeper and more natural relationship with the Chinese language through play and creative learning.
In our experience, the issue is not that Chinese is difficult to learn. Most students struggle to grasp the language because they lack opportunities to practice Chinese outside of the classroom. Students only have 2-3 hours of Chinese lessons in primary and secondary school, which is not enough to consistently become confident in speaking the language. This is particularly true for students who do not speak Chinese at home.
Unlike examination-based Chinese tuition centres that focus on rote learning and short-term memorisation, our programs encourage activities, role-play scenarios, and presentations that provide opportunities to apply new words and phrases in practice. By supplementing what is taught in schools, our curriculum helps our students gain a well-rounded understanding of the Chinese language, leading to better academic performance.
EduGrove Results
EduGrove students show an improved proficiency in the Chinese language after a few lessons. 99% of our students improve by at least one grade in the Chinese language, with over 50% failing students progressing to a passing grade.
61% of our primary level students scored AL4 and above, and 80% of our secondary students achieved B3 and above in their O Level results.
We understand that learning is a journey and strive to help every student perform at their best. Ultimately, we hope to provide students with skills which last a lifetime and proficiency in Chinese that they can use throughout their lives at school and beyond.
